The Best Defence Program
Counter-Violence & Advocacy Training
A note on COVID-19 (novel coronavirus disease)
At The Best Defence Program Counter-Violence & Advocacy Training Inc., health and safety is of the utmost importance.
We have and will continue to maintain strict hygiene standards in our programs. All sessions have alcohol-based hand sanitizer available to participants and we will continue to encourage its use throughout our sessions. Instructors carry their own personal dispensers of hand sanitizer and use it in combination with regular hand washing. We also maintain strict standards when it comes to our equipment: all mats and other gear gets wiped down with disinfectant between sessions and a more thorough cleaning takes place between programs. Any equipment or gear requiring laundering is either collected between sessions in sealed containers for proper laundering or designated single-use and sent home with its user.
In light of guidelines on large gatherings, some of our scheduled programming may be affected. Where possible, programs will be rescheduled or cancelled and deposits will be returned accordingly. Because COVID-19 can have a disproportionate and profoundly negative outcome with immunocompromised individuals, we are taking this step to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.
Remember: a Live Fence can be helpful in establishing a physical perimeter, as advised by current social-distancing recommendations. The right fence is adaptable, not rigid, and is part of sending the appropriate message.
We look forward to getting through this together.

I enjoyed the day. All the techniques were practical and seem flexible enough to be used in the real world.”Ryan, paramedic
Excellent. Wow. I have to say it wasn’t only good for the self-defence part, but also for making me more aware of the emotional well being side of things as well. Thanks.”Richard, 28
All of the instruction and demonstration were clear, and additional information was always available.”Liz, 25
I just finished taking part in the Basic class for the second time and was surprised at how easy it was to get through it! My goal is to become a full-fledged instructor some day because I believe nobody should be without this!”Barb, 33
The skills I have learned from Gary over the last ten years have enabled me to maintain a tactical advantage during various use of force situations. Gary is an excellent teacher who is enthusiastic in his teaching and practical in the applications of the skills he teaches. I consider myself a better peace officer and person for having learned from Gary and lucky to be able to call him my friend.”Constable Keith W. Ryzowski, RCMP Fort Chippewayan, Alberta
