While on the ground we are potentially vulnerable to being kicked in the legs, body, arms and head – any of which could be devastating. Additionally, our attacker may throw things, use weapons or enlist the aid of others. All of these threats remain present while in the process of standing. Keep your eyes open and track potential threats. Be prepared to run, strike with your hands, feet, elbows and knees to vital areas. Also be ready to go back to a balanced ground position if necessary. Regaining a balanced upright position should only be attempted when it is reasonable to try. Ending this confrontation from the ground may be the safest thing to do.
